about

explorations on circuit-bent casio sk-1

recorded and assembled in less than 3 weeks, bent notions documents what happens when a creative musician encounters an instrument as foreign as it is fascinating: a casio sk-1 circuit-bent by Dave Barnes (Dr. FREAKENSPEAK) of Canda. you see, i don't play keyboards, don't understand circuit-bending, and i still don't know what half the stuff on this keyboard does. when i got it, i just plugged it in, pressed record and played - in the true sense of the word. no overdubs or punches and very little editing was done. most of the pieces were lifted whole from longer improvs. i hope this recording is as fun to listen to as it was to make. i slept very little in the process, and a much needed rest is in order. so, as the soundman at cbgb's once said to me, "grab a girl and dance"

about

Rick Tarquinio New Jersey

My music is created very simply using improvisation, chance procedures or accidental means. I also do a lot of field recording and sound experiments using natural forces to create sound. I used to be a singer/songwriter in a past life, but every caterpillar has its day...
