about

Idus Martii - For 8 Windharps was created in AudioMulch from recordings of a 9-string homemade windharp. Though the piece is heavily processed, it retains much of the characteristic sounds of a windharp: long, slow swells, sharp drop outs, screechy buzzes, etc. And the gusting pulse of the wind can still be felt in the piece even through 8 layers of stretching and effects. The scraping percussive sounds are the result of overdriving the granulators. Normally I would avoid this, but it reminded me of leaves skittering across a parking lot or field (sometimes backwards!) so I invited them into the piece. Like most of my recent work this piece is a testament to chance and happenstance. Though it was processed and reprocessed, nothing was micromanaged or overly fussed with. I set it up, and the piece happens of its own accord. I hope you enjoy these harmonically rich and exciting sounds. They are fun to work with, and after several years of recording them I am still fascinated every time the wind blows and the harp sounds.

about

Rick Tarquinio New Jersey

My music is created very simply using improvisation, chance procedures or accidental means. I also do a lot of field recording and sound experiments using natural forces to create sound. I used to be a singer/songwriter in a past life, but every caterpillar has its day...
